how much sleep does a baby really need?


 

newborn:
16-20 hours

6 - 8 sleeps of 2 - 3 hours.


 
4-6 week old: 
16-20 hours


4 - 6 day sleeps of 2 - 2 1/2 hours, and evening sleep of 5 - 6 hours, such as 10pm - 4am.


 
2-3 month old:
15-19 hours

3 - 4 day sleeps of 2 - 3 hours, and evening sleep of 7- 8 hours, such as 10pm - 6am.


 
3-4 month old:
15-18 hours

3 day sleeps of 2 - 2 1/2 hours, and overnight sleep of 9 - 11 hours, such as 8pm - 6am.


 
4-6 month old:
15-17 hours

2 - 3 day sleeps of 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 hours, and overnight sleep of 10 - 12 hours, such as 7pm - 6am.


 
6-8 month old:
15-16 hours


morning and afternoon day sleeps of 2 -2 1/2 hours, and overnight sleep of 10 - 12 hours, such as 7pm - 6am.



 
9-12 month old:
14-15 hours

morning and afternoon day sleeps of 1 1/2 - 2 hours, and overnight sleep of 11 - 12 hours, such as 7pm - 7am.
